Dear Parents, Guardians and members of our Maskwacîs School Community,
The COVID-19 pandemic remains one of the most difficult challenges Maskwacîs has ever faced and has required us to change our behaviors to keep each other safe. These changes can be stressful and I’d like to encourage everyone to monitor and take care of their mental health.
Our thoughts are with our students, families and staff as we all navigate through this unprecedented time. Next to the health, safety and well-being of our students, families and staff, the continuation of learning is our top priority. On behalf of the MESC Board of Governors, I would like to thank you for your support and patience as our staff work diligently to provide learning in an entirely new way.
The Board is very thankful for the understanding and cooperation families have shown to our staff while they organized student learning packages and found ways to support learning from home. 73% of parents picked up student learning packages. Another 20% of parents who could not get to the schools welcomed our staff on April 16th to receive these packages at home. We are appreciative of this display of commitment to your children’s education.
I would also like to extend our gratitude to the MESC administration and all staff for their well planned and focused response to this crisis. The ongoing commitment, dedication and efforts by our teachers to meet the needs of our students is commendable.
We understand that parents and students are very concerned about this interruption to student learning. Having parental support will be very important in the coming weeks as we move to supporting education of our children from home. We cannot replicate our traditional school experience, however we want to assure you that MESC will continue to do whatever is possible to ensure your child(ren) can continue learning in new and alternative ways.
We continue to be guided by our four core values; Îyinîw Mâmitonehicikan, Nehiyawewin, Nehiyaw Pimâtisôwin ekwa Wahkôhtowin. I encourage families to connect and follow our Website and Facebook to see our plan, the learn from home resource page, and for the latest updates.
Everyone stay safe, Maskwacîs will get through this together.
Ay-hay, ekosi pitama,
Dr. Shauna Bruno
