2009 – 2010: Miyo Wahkohtowin begins to administer First Nation Student Success Program for all four nations. It is the first major collaboration among Maskwacîs schools.

September 5, 2011: Nipisihkopahk Education Authority opens the Maskwacîs Outreach School.

October 2011 – March 2012: All four education authorities pass motions to create the Maskwacîs Education Steering Committee (MESC).
2012
September 5, 2012: Maskwacîs Outreach School moves to a renovated space in the Maskwacîs Mall, and becomes the second major MESC collaboration.
2015
May 15, 2015: Maskwacîs Education Summit. All four Chiefs and Councils pass a motion directing MESC to explore the creation of a single Maskwacîs Education Authority.
2016
February 17, 2016: MESC is incorporated. Research and development begins.

June 21, 2016: Letter of Intent is signed with the Province of Alberta.
2017
February 8, 2017: Maskwacîs enters into negotiations with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) on a new funding model called the Maskwacîs Education Agreement; the four Maskwacîs Chiefs and Councils delegate authority and responsibility to MESC to manage schools in Maskwacîs through band council resolutions and delegation agreements.

Spring/Winter 2017: Maskwacîs community members create and review the Maskwacîs Cree Declaration on Education

August 1, 2017: A management team is seconded and an office is opened at Nipisihkopahk Education Authority; MESC begins building the new school authority.

September 2017: Research consultants are hired, MESC continues work on the Maskwacîs Cree Declaration on Education highlighting needs assessment, education consultations, education law, the Elders governance model and school authority review.

November 10, 2017: Maskwacîs Education Schools Commission hosts the first annual Youth Summit at the Nipisihkopahk Secondary School.

November 29, 2017: The four Maskwacîs Chiefs sign the Maskwacîs Cree Declaration on Education.

May 18, 2018: Maskwacîs Chiefs and Councils host formal signing ceremony to mark the historic signing of the Maskwacîs Education School’s Commission Resource and Development Agreement with Canada’s Ministry of Indigenous Services.

June 15, 2018: The four Maskwacîs Cree nations host Alberta’s Minister of Education to mark the signing of the Maskwacis Cree – Government of Alberta Framework Agreement.

July 1, 2018: Maskwacîs Education Schools Commission formally takes over educational responsibilities for the 11 schools in Maskwacîs.
