Additional Information:

The Driver (Nanatohk Miciwin) is responsible for pickup and delivery of food and non-food items, as well as ensuring safe and secure transportation, storage and distribution of goods and equipment to the schools.

The Driver (Nanatohk Miciwin) is responsible to the Universal School Foods Distribution Coordinator.

The Driver (Nanatohk Miciwin)will have specific responsibilities for:

  1. Pick up food and non-food items from various vendor locations
  2. Deliver food and non-food items to schools, MESC warehouse and other community locations (as required), ensuring each school has adequate supplies delivered on a scheduled weekly basis.
  3. Ensure work areas and vehicles are kept clean and free from unsafe and hazardous material.
  4. Ensure that distribution vehicles are in safe operating condition, inspecting vehicles daily
  5. Assist in the collection and recycling process of cardboard from schools and offices.
  6. Assist in maintaining an organized, clean, healthy and safe work space. 
  7. Control and monitor food storage ensuring stock rotation and proper cold/dry storage temperatures are maintained. 
  8. Use and inspect power jack, pallet jacks, lift gate on vehicles and refrigeration systems daily.
  9. Communicate daily with the Warehouse Team Lead(s)
  10. Utilize communication technology daily (cell phone, chromebook, etc) 
  11. Maintain professional business relationships with vendors
  12. Attend regular scheduled meetings and training sessions

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers’ License. Class 3 with airbrake(Q) endorsement preferred. 
  • Drivers Abstract -  Minimum of 3 yrs  reporting period
  • Relevant Safety Tickets i.e. WHMIS, Alberta Transportation Compliance, Food Safety Ticket, Food Handling, etc.

Working Conditions

  • Travel to school sites and offsite locations will be required.
  • Safety equipment will be required (e.g., steel-toed safety boots, gloves, safety glasses or goggles, reflective vest).
  • Overtime as required.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Possess a working knowledge of local food supply chain
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement applicable regulations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with cleaning products.
  • Strong customer service orientation and skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills required.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • First Aid skills and certification preferred.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must have own transportation to and from work.
