Compensation Rate:
$37.50/run (Approximately 1.5 hours per run). Time is approximately from 3:30-4:30pm
Hours Per Week:
Casual position, on an as needed basis but can lead to a full time position.
Additional Information:
The Bus Monitor is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of students while being transported to and from school and during school-related trips. This position provides supervision and support on the bus, assisting students with boarding and exiting safely, ensuring that safety rules are followed, and responding appropriately to student needs and behaviours. The Bus Monitor works closely with the Bus Driver and school staff to maintain a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all passengers.

Responsibilities
The Bus Monitor is responsible to the Coordinator of Transportation.
The Bus Monitor duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supervision
- Supervise students on the bus.
- Ensure students are correctly seated and remain seated while the bus is in motion.
- Maintain order and enforce safety rules.
- Address and report inappropriate behaviour.
- Assisting students
- Assist with loading and unloading.
- Assist young children or students with disabilities in getting on and off the bus.
- Ensure students are dropped off at the correct location.
- Ensure student safety
- Conduct head counts or checklists to ensure all students are accounted for.
- Monitor students during emergencies and help with evacuations.
- Report incidents, injuries, or safety concerns to the bus driver.
- Communication
- Communicate with the bus driver and the school staff.
- Relay any student issues or concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Follow directives from the bus driver, especially during emergencies.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Assist the driver in completing the incident or accident report as required.
- Maintain a Positive Environment
- Use respectful and encouraging language.
- Serve as a positive role model for students.
- Support Special Needs Students(if applicable)
- Provide extra assistance, such as securing seatbelts, mobility support, or behaviour management strategies.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with children and youth is preferred.
- Ability to maintain calm and order in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours as required.
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Training in student behavior management and/or special needs support is an asset.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily conducted on school buses during morning and afternoon routes, with occasional field trips or extracurricular travel.
- Requires sitting, standing, bending, and assisting students with mobility needs.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions when assisting students to and from the bus.
- May involve handling stressful or emergency situations.
