Responsibilities

The Nehiyawewin Curriculum Developer is responsible to the Coordinator of Nehiyawewin.

The Nehiyawewin Curriculum Developer duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop,  recommend and revise nehiyaw nehiyawewin curriculum materials and resources that support the implementation of a Maskwacis nehiyawewin K-12 Curriculum
  • review, research nehiyawewin best practices and implement in the development of curriculum materials
  • support the development and implementation  of nehiyawewin assessment materials and practices
  • support the evaluation of nehiyawewin programming
  • prepare and conduct presentations, training and reports on Maskwacis K-12 curriculum as requested
  • Provide in-class support to instructors delivering new curriculum
  • Model and promote continuous learning experiences through reflection, professional growth, and communication
  • Other duties and tasks as required

Qualifications

  • a Bachelor of Native/Indigenous Studies or Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Arts with a focus on Indigenous language revitalization/linguistics
  • Experience working with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Maskwacisak
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant research experience 
  • Previous experience in handling confidential or sensitive information

Knowledge and Skills

  • Oral fluency required and written proficiency in Nehiyawewin is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Maskwacis culture and traditions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity, demonstrating respect to staff, parents and members of Maskwacis 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills
  • High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion
  • Proficiency in using Google applications
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional learning
  • Demonstrated respect for diverse backgrounds, perspectives and abilities
  • Ability to make effective decisions and work in an efficient manner
  • Ability to analyze, record, interpret and translate historical and current sources of information, such as interviews, recordings and documents
  • Demonstrated ability to access and utilize various research methods
  • Proven problem-solving ability and initiative to take on roles as a mentor and peer learning coach
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues, and Maskwacisak
