Additional Information:
The Administrative Assistant (Health and Wellness) is primarily responsible for the administration of Maskwacis Education Schools Commission’s employee benefits programs. The Administrative Assistant (Health and Wellness) will seek to resolve pension and benefit-related issues, ensure that pension and benefits forms and online information is complete and up-to-date, communicate with employees as required, and will work closely with payroll to coordinate the processing of pension and health benefits payments.
As an employee in the organization, you will model the intent of the Maskwacis Declaration on Education and the core values of Wahkohtowin, Iyiniw Mamotohnehicikan, Nehiyaw Pimatisiwin, and Nehiyawewin. This is evident by:
- Ensuring that decisions are made to the ultimate benefit of Maskwacis students;
- Assisting the Superintendent and the board to ensure that all students benefit from their treaty right to a quality education;
- Respecting the Cree language, spirituality, and traditions within the Education Authority; and
- Providing Maskwacis leadership (the Cree way) in all matters relating to education in the Maskwacis Schools: consensus building, creating dialogue with stakeholders, and empowering leadership in the system.

Responsibilities
The Admin Assistant for Health and Wellness is responsible to the Director of Health and Wellness.
- The Admin Assistant of Health and Wellness duties include but are not limited to:
- Onboarding of new employees
- Maintaining and updating employee pension and benefits records;
- Ensuring prompt processing of pension and benefits enrollments, changes, terminations, and claims;
- Resolving benefit and pension-related issues and responding to queries and requests in a timely manner;
- Supporting the Health and Wellness Lead in collecting data to evaluate the efficiency and value of current benefits programs;
- Creating and maintaining records, reports, and documentation in accordance with federal, provincial and provider regulations;
- Support employees in navigating inquiries related to health and wellness services;
- Updating and formatting People Service’s handbooks;
- Supporting the Director of Health and Wellness in the organization of meetings;
- Supporting the Director of Health and Wellness with various administrative tasks.
- Ensure that medical and all other sensitive personal information is treated with confidentiality and stored in compliance with regulations.
- Oversee wellness claim accounts & request
- Ensure files are up to date and scanned into Laserfiche
- Be a participating member in the MESC Wellness Committee and be directly involved in researching wellness initiatives, updating committee members on current data/information, and discuss/bring forward new health and wellness opportunities
- Reception Coverage
- Help payroll department by providing them with up-to-date information on all employees
- Identify and commit to working on areas of growth.
- Model continuous learning through reflection, professional growth and communication.
- Support of Employee Health and Wellness Program
- Support the implementation of the initiatives in the wellness plan to support the spiritual, emotional, physical and intellectual health of MESC employees and encourage healthy lifestyles.
- Communicate regularly with supervisors and staff regarding health and wellness related matters
- Support - Coordinate opportunities from the wellness program for employees to learn skills and strategies related to improving wellness.
- Support the collection and analysis of data to evaluate the effectiveness of the health and wellness program
- Support Crisis Response and Trauma-Informed Practices
- Support with Traumatic Crisis Response Protocol.
- Model trauma-informed practices in all staff interactions.
Qualifications
- Experience in human resources, business, finance, or a related field;
- Two years of experience as a Benefits Administrator or in a similar role;
- Working knowledge of relevant policies and regulations;
- Knowledge of Cree language would be an asset;
- Experience in a health, insurance and/or benefits administration environment is an asset;
- Experience in an educational environment would be an asset;
- Work experience in a leadership role would be an asset.
Working Conditions
