Samson Cree Nation paskwâwi-mostos (Plains Buffalo) Repatriation

On March 7, 2023, Samson Cree Nation repatriated 20 paskwâwi-mostos (Plains Buffalo) at Bittern Lake, Alberta. The paskwâwi-mostos were added to the existing herd. Traditionally, paskwâwi-mostos provided food, shelter and clothing for nêhiyawak (Cree People). Since the reservation system was introduced, nêhiyawak have been separated from the paskwâwi-mostos for years. We now have the opportunity to reconcile and reclaim that relationship.
